Hello! My name's Anna. Welcome! I'm the current UCL TAG president but I'm most often found in the teen department of the Monroe branch.
Let's just jump right in then!
First off, I love the library. Wow! Big surprise! But what I mean is that I use the library a lot so I don't actually possess a lot of the books I've read. Oh, the pain of being an unemployed college student :( But I've been utilizing quite the lucrative scheme of buying from used book stores, reading the books, and then reselling back to said used book stores so I can buy more used books! It's quite effective! So my bookshelf is pretty much just a rotating TBR.
My bookshelf occupies the majority of my half of the room I share with my sister, so it often holds a lot more than books. It's also home to clocks, knick-knacks, flowers, daggers, plants, and random statues an old guy gave me.
It's grievously lacking any kind of organization, I subscribe to the "if it fits, it sits" method and I am running out of places things fit. Although I feel its eclectic display is pretty reflective of the rest of my life. Kinda just shoved together by trial and error until it works.
I guess my bookshelf really starts on top of it with, my pothos, model ship from my dad, and hidden in the back, a big ol' globe my granddad gave me from the 80s so it still has the USSR on it.
On my first shelf, I have a few childhood favorites, The Castle Corona, Swallows and Amazons, a few choose your own adventures, The Mysterious Benedict Society, Star Wars, and the Book of Wonders. All books I would read before bed when I was just a tike, so they have a special place in my absolutely ancient 17-year-old heart. I usually gravitate towards these when things aren't going well or I need some good ol' childhood wonder. On the other side is Shadow and Bone, one of my favorite books by one of my favorite authors, the wonderful Ms. Bardugo. The Six of Crows duology (which is my favorite of her books) stays pretty much permanently on my nightstand. Good Omens which we all know is absolutely hilarious but it always makes me a bit sad too. And The Hidden Life of Trees which made me feel really bad about using paper products.
As we move on to the second shelf, it transitions to a bit more YA and recent reads. I have yet to read the Raven Boys and Cinder, but I have heard great things! Something about a Welsh ghost? I also have one of my absolute favorite of all time books, Ziggy, Stardust & Me. Which is a stupendous mix of 1970s teen culture, self-discovery, surprisingly profound passages, love, and David Bowie. It's one
of those books I pick up and just flip to random spots whenever I need to get back into reading.
On the other side, the weird mix of books continues with The Little Prince, Leonardo's Notebooks, Miss Perigrims Home, Fahrenheit 451, a storybook, star trek parody books, and The Hobbit. I watched the Netflix movie version of The Little Prince before I read it and to say I cried would be an understatement. It's such an adorable story and I highly recommend it, if you've actually managed to avoid this little classic for this long.
phew, we're almost at the end, I promise. I didn't realize how big my bookshelf is! Okay, this one is home to a plethora of Game Informer, a handful of scientific Americans, one Queen magazine, Imperial Woman (which I have yet to read much to my mother's chagrin), a few pretty good YA fantasy novels, and some Shakespearian poems.
And now we enter the "Oh no, too many books, not enough space" bottom shelves of chaos.
These last two shelves are full of a few read, but the majority unread, books. Mainly a lot of newer YA from the library, gifts, and random other acquisitions. It's also home to the 2nd and 3rd books in the Ranger's Apprentice series! I read all these books in 2 or 3 weeks when I was younger and I'm still lowkey upset I'll never be a super awesome ranger who can shoot a blade of grass in half. The rest are all TBR. Ahh, too many books, not enough time! Maybe it's a good thing I don't buy new books all the time. I need to finish these ones first!
Well, that's pretty much it, a bunch of books with a bunch of knick-knacks! I absolutely love my bookshelf and all it contains, although I could go without the subtle sense of guilt when looking at the bottom few shelves. I hope you had a good time glimpsing into my humble collection and maybe recognized a few of your favorites!
