"Autumn seemed to arrive suddenly that year. "

Pumpkin Spice season arrived early this year as so has the unofficial start of autumn. Even though 2020 seems like it has been the longest year for us all, it has also passed in the blink of an eye. Summer at the library was about adjusting to the new normal of physically being in the library while building our virtual services and resources. Now that we are moving into September, we have a lot of events, activities, and book releases coming up over the next few months.

By the way, we got hundreds of responses for our Teen Feedback Survey so you all get to pick my next hair color (my fingers are crossed you all don't do me wrong)! Click the button below to let me know what color you want to see me dye my hair.

Also, a special shout out to our winner of the survey raffle, Emely! We just sent out the notification today that she won the back to school pack and $25 Visa gift card.

We are super stoked to be amping up book clubs for teens at the library. One of the cool things is we are going to be experimenting with different ways of doing book clubs based on what might work best for you. Let us know what you think or books you want to see as a book club pick!

Our book this month is the graphic novel Dragon Hoops by Gene Luen Yang. If you love basketball or comics be sure to stop by!

Beginning this month we will be spotlighting different titles from the library's teen nonfiction collection in the Past + Present: Exploring History blog series. The posts will go up on the first Wednesday of each month.

As part of our continuing Mental Health Matters series on the blog, I will be posting this month on September 16th in honor of National Suicide Prevention Month. Until then, I just want to remind anyone that is struggling right now that you are not alone. If you need help reach out to me, a friend, trusted adult, or call 1-800-273-8255.

In place of our annual Super Con event we are doing a virtual week-long celebration of all things superhero, comics, and fandom related. The events and activities will be happening September 21st-25th. The full schedule will be released soon but check out some of our highlighted events below!

There will be a lot more events and activities going on throughout the week so be sure to check the blog, the library's website, and our social media for more closer to the end of the month!

I hope that everyone has been able to adjust to their virtual schooling okay and if you haven't let me know and I can see what I can do to help. Myself and the library staff are working on projects and resources to better support you, your parents, and teachers and I hope to announce those next month!

In the meantime, take a break and grab a Pumpkin Cream Cold Brew from Starbucks (because it still 90 degrees outside)!

Until next time,

Ms. Stephanie
