If you're anything like me, going to the beach is me-time. That means time to unwind and escape reality. What better way to do that than pop open a book! Here are five of my favorite books that totally fit the beach vibe!
The Summer of Broken Rules by K.L. Walther
Meredith's family's annual game of assassin at Martha's Vineyard during a summer wedding is the perfect chance to honor her sister's legacy and finally join the world again. But when she forms an alliance with a cute groomsman, she's at risk of losing both the game and her heart.
This book is the perfect mix of romance, a strong family dynamic, and overcoming a devastating tragedy. This book isn't your run of the mill romance book, it's a transition from losing a loved one to falling in love with someone new, which takes the reader through an emotional journey. Even though Claire passed, you can tell she is always there for Meredith, encouraging her to push for happiness. This book is impossible to put down and the perfect add to your summer reading list.
Cover Story by Susan Rigetti
Cover Story follows the story of a friendship between two women in NYC: Lora, a dropout student from NYU who lands an internship at ELLE, and Cat, a rich foreign mogul, who takes Lora under her wing. Cat's glamorous life, however, is exposed to not be as glamorous as it seems through a string of lies and fraud.
Take the best mystery, thriller, and drama novels and combine them into one to create Cover Story. Seriously, it's that good. The story is told through diary entries, emails, and more, which makes the reader feel like they're an FBI agent in an investigation. If you want to read a book that will make your eyes glued to the pages through the entirety of your beach trip, then Cover Story is the book for you!
The Wrong Move by Jennifer Savin
This modern thriller follows Jessie, who thinks she’s found the perfect place to live, when she moves into Maver Place and meets fellow flat mates Lauren and Sofie. Needless to say, she’s very wrong.
The Wrong Move is perfect if you want a fast and easy to digest book to read. It's a quick read, while simultaneously keeping the reader engaged through its thrill. Definitely DON'T read this book if you have roommates or like to have sleepovers because this book will give you the straight creeps. I would, however, definitely pack this book on your beach trip if you want a thriller that's right to the point.
The Sight of You by Holly Miller
Would you want to fall in love if you knew how it would end? This is the question at the core of this heartbreaker. Joel has visions that keep coming true and Callie is lost. When they meet, it feels as if they are soul mates – until Joel sees how their coupledom is fated to end.
It is safe to say that The Sight of You is more than just a romance novel. Holly Miller, the author, is able to tie in what I would call fantasy that made the book heart-wrenching, but also very thought provoking. It makes the reader wonder what they would do if they were in the same situation. Would they stay with someone they loved even if they knew it ended tragically? You will not be able to put this book down if you bring it to beach, so I definitely recommend picking this book up before your trip if you want a full escape from reality.
Beach Read by Emily Henry
Augustus will spend the summer writing something happy, and January will pen the next Great American Novel. She’ll take him on field trips worthy of any rom-com montage, and he’ll take her to interview surviving members of a backwoods death cult (obviously). Everyone will finish a book and no one will fall in love. Really.
By now, you can tell the books I read at the beach are romances that have emotional depth. Well, Beach Read encapsulates just that. However, the title is a little misleading because this book actually takes place at a lake house. The feeling of angst tied into the story makes the book very fast-paced and actually a quick- read, which is perfect if you want to bring multiple books on your beach trip. I would absolutely bring this book along on your beach trip if you want to read a not-so-average-romance novel!
