Have you ever read a book that was just so perfect, you had to listen to a song written about it? But then, of course, there are none? What are you to do?
Well, fear not, because Chloe Ament is here to save the day! After having listened to several of her EPs, I’m here to tell you she will be your new best friend when it comes to music inspired by your favorite books.
Most of Chloe's discography is based on novels, but a few are based on movies (such as The Amazing Spider-Man) and TV shows (like Stranger Things). Read through to find your favorites!
Starting off strong is “Someone to Call Mine,” based on Percy and Annabeth from the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series. It focuses on Annabeth's perspective of their relationship, recalling how she wishes "to freeze the time" when they're together. The song's storyline spans over five years, and you can hear the attention to detail in every lyric. "Someone to Call Mine" is a light and sweet song, perfect to remind you of summer whenever you're down. The fact that it is based on an amazing book couple just makes that even better!
Next up is "Time Again," which is a bit of an ambiguous track. Ament has said that it references multiple ships across books such as Shadow and Bone and Harry Potter, but the one that aligns most closely is Liz and Wes from Better Than The Movies. If you have not read this book, it is a wonderful experience, perfect for everyone who enjoys a good romcom and some enemies-to-lovers, boy-next-door romance. Liz is headstrong and determined not to fall for Wes, but as they spend more time together, she falls for him. As the song moves to a crescendo, she cries out, "If you had asked by now, I'd be yours!"
"Until The End" comes from the "Broken Bodies, Broken Hearts" EP, which Chloe Ament has revealed is about the Marauders while they were at Hogwarts. All of the events in this EP happen before Harry, Ron, and Hermione step foot inside that castle, but fans of the series will recognize the parallels. This song in particular is about James and Lily Potter, how they moved through young adulthood "cheating death" until it caught up with them, but that they still loved each other "until the end."
In the last fun single, Chloe Ament demonstrates another style of songwriting, with all the heavy drums of a rock song, but the hopeful voice of a teen girl. "The Boy" is based on Stranger Things, with a specific emphasis on Steve Harrington. In a humorous light, Ament comments that while he falls in love too often, "stranger things have happened."
While this is by no means an exhaustive list of Chloe Ament's discography, I hope that you have been intrigued by her music and will go give her a listen!
