Decadent Oreo Brownies

With Valentine's Day right around the corner, you might be looking for a sweet treat to make for your family, friends, or significant other. Look no further! These brownies are the perfect gift to give! Not only are they super simple to make, but they're also extremely moist and fudgy. The recipe that I use also packs in a ton of Oreo flavor and chocolatey decadence!

Ingredient List

1 cup (2 sticks) melted butter

6 oz (3/4 cup) of semi sweet chocolate

4 eggs

3/4 cup granulated sugar

3/4 cup brown sugar

2 Tbps sour cream

2 tsp vanilla extract or paste

2/3 cup all-purpose flour

1/2 cup cocoa powder

1/2 tsp salt

25 Oreo cookies (I used 30)

Step 1:

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Line a 9 x 13 pan in parchment paper and lightly spray with oil. It is important to only spray a little since you don't want the brownies to absorb a ton of excess oil. Crush the 25-30 Oreos in a gallon freezer bag. You want a mix of medium and small pieces. We will set this bad aside for later. Next, melt the butter in the microwave in 15 second intervals. This makes sure that you heat the butter just enough to melt but not enough to scald. Add the 6 oz of chocolate to the melted butter and mix until everything is combined. If the chocolate doesn't completely melt, then pop the butter and chocolate mixture back in the microwave, 10 seconds at a time and mix well in between.

Step 2:

Add 4 eggs, granulated sugar, brown sugar, sour cream, and vanilla extract to the bowl of a stand mixer or just a stand-alone bowl. You will need to whip the eggs extra well so I would recommend a stand mixed, but a hand mixer will also do. The recipe says to mix these ingredients for 8 minutes, until it is light in color. I honestly think 8 minutes is too long. I whipped them for about 4-5 minutes on medium/high speed and achieved the same light color. After this, lower the speed and add the butter and chocolate mixture in, mixing only until combined.

Step 3:

Add all of the dry ingredients (flour, cocoa powder, salt) to a separate bowl. You can sift these ingredients for a finer mixture but I don't see the need to. Slowly incorporate the dry mixture into the wet mixture. Only mix everything until just combined. The gluten in the flour can over activate if mixed too much and can make the brownies dry.

Step 4:

Pour half of the brownie batter into the 9 x 13 pan. Take half of the Oreo mixture an sprinkle it over the batter in the pan. Add the remaining batter in the bowl to the pan, trying your best to cover the Oreos underneath. The rest of the crusted Oreos should be evenly sprinkled on the top of the brownie batter.

Step 5:

Put the brownies into the oven and bake for about 35 minutes. I needed to keep my brownies for an extra 5-ish minutes before they were just right. If you want a more fudgy brownie, you can take them out earlier (35 minute mark), and if you want a more cakey brownie, you take take them out later (about the 45 minute mark). After taking the brownies out, let them rest until they are cooled off before cutting them. Then you are ready to enjoy!
