DIY Rainbow Prisms

I spend a lot of time in my bedroom.

It is my safe haven... the space I seek out when I need to recharge or take a moment away from the world. Like so many, my bedroom is a reflection of me with a black comforter and black shelves and a fluffy black blanket that I... well, you get the picture!

However, I did have an epiphany one morning when I was deep in my feels...

I bet rainbows would make me happier.

And just like that, I was in the aisle of JoAnn Fabric's staring in awe at the walls of glass beads, silver chains, and small hoops. When thinking about how I wanted my prism to look, I focused on beads that would cast those joyful rainbows across my bedroom wall.

And (spoiler alert) I was much happier when finishing.

What You'll Need

  • glass beads

  • small hoops

  • a length of chain (or wire)

  • small plyers (optional)

Now, this is not a hard and fast tutorial with specific steps. It's mostly a guide to get you started!

Many craft stores have an array of beads to choose from, so don't feel like you have to purchase the ones that I used. Find materials that make you happy. Glass beads will reflect the light but you can incorporate other kinds for pops of colour!

Before I did anything, I arranged the beads how I would like them to look when hanging. It helped me secure a design that I was satisfied with.

When looking on Pinterest, some folks used wires to interlock designs... such as two circles or triangles meeting at a point. I did attempt this at first, but the wire quickly became a nemesis so I stuck with my sturdy chain.

And that's it pretty much it! Like I said, this craft can be personalized to suit your personal aesthetic so you can add as many or as little beads as you'd like.

Happy Rainbows!
