Double, Double Toil & Trouble

It's October, my friends! This means it's time for all the spooktastic YA books!

To be honest, I am a scaredy-cat, so I tend to shy away from the horror books with killer clowns and other sketchy murderers. But, I am a sucker for YA books with witches in them. I've loved witches since I was a teen watching The Craft and Practical Magic, on my antique VCR player. Check out some of my favorite witchy reads below, plus some on my TBR list for October.

Isabel Sterling

Hannah, an elemental witch, is just trying to survive high school which means avoiding her ex-girlfriend (fellow elemental witch) while falling for the new girl in town, who holds some secrets of her own. But, when dark magic starts to appear around town Hannah is forced to partner with her ex, Veronica, to protect their coven.

This duology was one of my favorites last fall. Both are quick reads proving even witches can find themselves in the midst of a love triangle.

Suzanne Walker &Wendy Xu

Nova Huang is your normal everyday teenage witch working in her grandmother's bookshop. One night, she discovers her childhood crush in the woods who turns out to be the white wolf that has been reported around town. Together, the two come up with a plan to keep Tam Lang out of the clutches of his enemies while falling for each other more and more every day.

This cutesy graphic novel gives the reader all the feels with its romance and heartwarming family ties. Plus, it has one craving delicious mooncakes!

Shelby Mahurin

In the town of Cesarine, Louise le Blanc finds herself on the run from her coven. Being a witch is an identity she must keep to herself to avoid persecution. She soon finds herself colliding with Reid Diggory, Chasseur, who is sworn to hunt and kill witches in order to protect the city. The two soon find themselves forced to wed by the Archbishop of Belterra after one unfortunate incident.

This three-part series which concluded this summer is sure to be a favorite of the spooky season.

Sarah Hollowell

Deep in the woods, Derry lives in an isolated house with her other adopted siblings. They have all been abandoned by their families due to their magical abilities. Derry soon finds her siblings disappearing one by one. Forcing her to question whether their caretaker, Franks, is really who he claims to be. Derry finds herself in the woods where she must embrace the magic and darkness inside her in order to save herself and her siblings.

If the cover is any indication of how great this book will be we are surely in for another excellent witchy read.

H.E. Edgmon

Wyatt Croft finds himself in the human world fleeing from his betrothal to fae prince, Emyr North. But, Emyr North has followed him and will not let Wyatt off the hook that easy. Wyatt is coming to terms with his identity as transgender along with his inability to control his magic. As Wyatt tries to escape his duty of ruling the kingdom of Asalin, he finds himself in the clutches of the enemy who promises what Wyatt has always wanted to escape Asalin forever.

This inclusive YA novel is the first in what should be an excellent new series for us to devour.
