Duct Tape Crafting

As I've mentioned here on the blog a few times, I love organizing. I decided I needed more sock organization as my collection of Harry Potter socks has outgrown the container I have them in. Not wanting to spend money on an expensive storage container, I've decided to spice up a shoe box with duct tape. I've never used duct tape for a craft, so this will be an adventure.

Let me remind you all that I am not a crafty person, and because I'm lazy, I decided to wing it. I started with my space themed tape, grabbed an old shoe box, and got to work.

I began by wrapping the lower portion of the box all around, leaving some hanging off the bottom. I cut at the corners, and then I folded the tape at the bottom so the bottom edges of the box wouldn't have seams. I think that came out well! I proceeded to then continue to wrap around the box, and I did the same at the top for the seams.

(Not so) Pro-tip: use sharp scissors! Mine were too dull to cut the duct tape, and that was super annoying.

Here it is! My orange bird looks pretty good in it! I'm showing the good side. The other side had weird seams where I cut the tape. I should have cut right at the edge of the box, but I didn't think about that at the time. Also, I thought a space duct tape would mean it would all blend in, but you can still see the lines of the tape across the box. Maybe a different print or a single color would look better when layering.

Here is the box with some of my Harry Potter socks in it. So spacey! It reminds me of my favorite Saturday Night Live sketch.

Have you ever crafted with duct tape? What did you make? Let us know in the comments!
