I've had an old earrings hanger in my closet that I made with burlap that has held up really well, and I wanted to share how I made it. This is such an easy project, literally anyone can do it. This is also a great way to store your pin collection if you have one (and you know as a Disney nut, I have a ton of Disney trading pins!).
To start, you need a picture frame large enough to store a bunch of items on it and some burlap. You can purchase burlap pretty much anywhere, but I got mine at Joann Fabrics. You want a large piece so make sure you aren't purchasing it in rolls.
I found an old, pink frame in my closet. This was $2 at Ikea many moons ago. You don't need an expensive frame, just one that you like!
I opened the frame and removed the clear plastic that covered the photo. Then I laid the frame on top of the burlap, and cut out an area about the size of the frame. Try to avoid any folds or creases in the area of burlap you cut out. The flatter the burlap is, the better it'll look in the frame.
Here it is cut. You can kind of see the pink frame underneath. And you can see that there is a large crease mark at the top from where the burlap was folded. This is what you are trying to avoid.
I then laid the burlap inside the frame and closed it. As you can see, a lot is hanging out the sides, so I cut them to ensure they wouldn't show when I hang my earring holder.
Here it is! This was incredibly easy to do. As someone who isn't the least bit crafty, this is my type of project! If I hadn't had this frame available to use already, I would have gone with a larger one so I could fit more earrings on it. It's hanging on two nails I put into the wall.
You can also do something similar for your studs or if you have a pin collection. What I did was cut out a piece of burlap, pin it to my wall, and then place some pins and earrings onto it with their backs behind the burlap. Again, this is super easy. If you want to get fancy, you can sew the sides of the burlap so that they won't fray. However, that is above my level of craftiness!
This craft can easily be modified. Above is a picture of Kristie's pin holder. She used cloth, sewed a dowel to the top, and hangs it with twine.
