I love decorating for Halloween! It's such a fun holiday in such a cozy time of year, and decorations just increase the fun! In the library, I've added bat cutouts to every teen/adult computer, and I decorated the poles attached to our service pods. Below I'm going to cover a few easy ideas you can do around the house to get into the spooky spirit!
First, let's start with a super easy one. I added bat cutouts to a lamp in my house! I used the bats from OriginalMom.com, traced them onto black construction paper, cut them out, and then put a rolled up piece of tape on them to get them to hold. I've done this for a few years, and it hasn't hurt the lamp shades at all. Super cute and super simple!
Another idea I love is making a Mummy Door in your house. I did this to the Reference office door at the Main library in Monroe. First, I purchased large googly eyes, which were only a couple of dollars, and I used Command strips to attach them to the door. I love these strips because they don't damage the door at all. Then, with the help of a few taller coworkers, I took some white crepe paper and wrapped it on the door. Next time, I'd probably find wider crepe paper, but it worked very easily. Progress pictures are below.
Laura G loves the door too!
Finally, I purchased some glow sticks. I cut out some creepy eyes from paper towel rolls (they work so much better than toilet paper rolls as these are not long enough to hide the entire glow stick), put the glow stick inside, and voila! Creepy outdoor decoration! I tried putting them in the bushes as you can see, but I couldn't find a way to hide the rolls entirely. I suggest doing these if you have mulch or pine straw that can cover up the cardboard.
If you try any of these, or have other good Halloween decorating ideas, share in the comments!
