During the holidays, it can be challenging to find the perfect gift. It is always difficult questioning if they will enjoy the gift or even use it. Therefore, edible presents are a great alternative to make any friend or family happy. To make it extra special, you can gift edible treats from the festive season. These include Christmas cookies, peppermint treats, and special drinks. There are also regular items with a Christmas twist. Join me as I highlighted some of these treats to help you decide what to give (or get for yourself)!
Cookies
Cookies are always a classic treat during the holiday season. These confections can come in all shapes resembling classic Christmas symbols, such as candy canes and trees. You can also make them as sugar cookies or gingerbread. I have always been a fan of being able to frost and design my own cookies with special toppings. Cookies are always a great treat to give to anyone, Christmas season or not. You can either purchase cookies from the store or bake and frost your own.
Baked Goods
If cookies aren't their thing, you can always give them one of many holiday-themed baked treats. These goods range from peanut butter blossom cookies to velvet cake. Even desserts that aren't exactly "holiday-themed" can be great gifts! My personal favorite baked good is cranberry bars, which mix the tart flavor of cranberries with the sweet taste of the crust. For some ideas, check out this list of holiday dessert ideas. You can always alter any recipe you find to your liking!
Candy-Filled Candy Canes
If you have ever been to the candy section of a store during November and December, you will always find tons of these candy-filled candy canes. As the name suggests, these treats store a bunch of a certain candy in a candy cane shaped container. The candy present can vary from Hershey to Mars products. These candy packs are great for items in a white elephant or for an add-on in a Secret Santa. You can find these "candy canes" as most supermarkets.
Peppermint Treats
Just as pumpkin flavor is associated with autumn, so too peppermint is known as the flavor of winter. The most notable treat is of course candy canes, the stable candy of Christmas. To make various peppermint treats, you can break up candy canes to add that minty flavor. My favorite peppermint treat are peppermint meringues, which can be found at Trader Joes. Peppermint is not the flavor for everyone though, so you might want to check with your friend/family before you purchase them a Peppermint Mocha.
Trail Mix
A food item which can never go wrong is trail mix. With a variety of options, you can find the mix just right for your gift recipient. During the holiday season, however, you can find special festive-themed mixes. This includes my favorite "Holiday Mingle Mix" at Costco. While still retaining the aspects of a trail mix, this mix adds a mix of holiday treats to give it a festive twist. You can also make your own holiday mixes, either using recipes you can find online or winging it to surprise your friends and family.
Fudge
Fudge is a small edible gift which comes in a variety of flavors. These confections are great stocking stuffers for anyone on your list. My family always gifts each other usually the same favorite flavors each year. For me, my favorite is either a birthday cake or orange flavoring. Though I have never had any, you can also have some holiday-themed fudge. You can check out this list of recipes for some ideas. You can also always purchase fudge from one of many vendors here in North Carolina.
Hot Cocoa
For those who prefer to sip on special drinks, hot cocoa is the perfect warm drink for the holidays. Since you can't just give a cup of cocoa for Christmas, you can instead present a hot coca set. These gift sets usually include a cup, cocoa powered, marshmallows, and other toppings. You can also give someone a hot cocoa bomb, which is basically an all-in-one hot cocoa mix. If hot cocoa isn't there thing, there is always the many special drinks you can find at coffeehouses.
Gift Boxes
If you just can't decide what treat to get your friend or family, there are always gift boxes. These collections, though expensive, provide a little bit of everything for anyone to enjoy. You can find boxes with sweet treats, savory items, and a mix of both. There are chocolate collections, with special filled chocolates, and even snack sets, with fruits, cheese, and crackers. I always enjoy the chocolate boxes due to the variety of fillings. You can find these boxes at supermarkets.
As gift exchanges come near, I hope you were able to find the perfect edible treat for people on your list. While you prepare your gifts, have fun making and finding unique treats for a memorable gift! You may even be able to introduce them (or you) to their new favorite holiday snack.
