Sundays begin with coffee, lots and lots of coffee. I usually rotate between 4-5 cups of coffee and a couple glasses of water within the first two hours of the morning. Sometimes I make a French Press and hoard it away from my partner. I don’t think there is anything I enjoy more than hanging out on my porch with coffee and a book. I enjoy it so much I will grouch at family members who think the best time to interrupt me is in my safe space.
Then comes Yoga! I am by no means a yogi, but I do love the stretching. My favorite recent item I acquired is Yoga Stack, which is basically your standard pack of cards but with yoga poses and instruction. I try to pick 8 cards, and then proceed to move through each of the poses I pulled. It is silly, but it makes my old lady body feel renewed from the previous week.
Now, I can’t really tell you when this became part of my rotation, but I do tweeze or wax, it just depends on my patience level. Do I want to punish myself hair by hair, or all in one swipe? Granted when I was younger I could not begin to care about my eyebrows, but maybe it is just an obsession that comes with age.
Hint: You can always tell when I have been having a rough go of it emotionally based on the precision of my eyebrows.
Then comes the shower, this is not the usual kind of shower, it is more of a sho-bath. First I use the shower to shampoo my hair, then a butter hair mask, and a general cleaning of the body as quickly as possible. Then I turn off all the cold water and plug up my tub. Once the tub is full I find a bath bomb of some type and soak until I am more raisin than person.
Now that I am squeaky clean, I put on one of my collections of masks. This week I am going with the Disco Kitten peel off face mask by I Dew Care. Honestly though, my favorite thing about the peel off mask is watching my partner's face as I am peeling it off. Hilarious!
Once my face feels younger than it should, I move on to my nails. Surprisingly working in a library doesn’t really allow for you to have gorgeous nails. I think I break on average 3-4 nails a week. Who knew books were so heavy? Any who, I usually file them, smooth them, then top them with either a clear polish, or the most ridiculous color I can find within immediate reach.
For the rest of the day I bounce around possible outfits for the upcoming week, and relax reading or on the Nintendo Switch, continuing my self-care to my Animal Crossing equal as I gorge myself on whatever fruit looks best that week at the Farmer’s Market.
Before I go to bed on Sunday nights I always make sure to have my clothes picked out, my water bottle chilling in the fridge for the next day, and my bags packed (to return books, work on projects that I started at home, etc). I make notes in my planner and notebooks about important upcoming projects and due dates, I will inevitably have forgotten by Monday morning. This allows me the chance to go to bed without the extra stress of MONDAY looming over.
