Fun fall Activities

The falling leaves, crisp air, and comeback of pumpkin spice can only mean one thing: it's fall. My favorite part of this season are all of the activities that take place through October and November. Fall is the perfect time to get out and explore what many activities Charlotte has to offer. I have created a list of some fun activities that take place around the Charlotte area during the fall months!

Scarowinds- Scarowinds is a creepy Halloween event at Carowinds, that takes place from September 13 to October 27. This event is half amusement park and half haunted house, with jump scares at every turn and eerie decorations masking popular attractions. This activity is great for anyone who doesn't mind being scared every once and awhile. Even though the tickets for Scarowinds do cost some money, it is worth the price for some fun with friends and family.

Pumpkin patches- There are a lot of fun pumpkin patches around Charlotte in the fall. Some popular places are Wise Acres Farm, Carrigan farms, and Hunter Farm. Pumpkin patches usually have other activities included in the ticket price, such as corn mazes and wagon rides. A lot of patches also have play places for little ones and a little shop with some seasonal snacks. Let's not forget the pumpkin picking! Every patch has a wide variety of pumpkins that will satisfy every pumpkin picker! Pumpkin patches are a perfect activity for friends looking to hang out or families wanting to get out of the house.

Apple picking- Apple picking is a bit more rare in the Charlotte area, seeing as there is not a cold enough climate year round to grow apples. You would have to drive up towards the mountains to find a true apple orchard. The drive is worth it, however, for the beautiful sights and crisp apples. You are able to hunt for and pick out the perfect apples and enjoy the mountain scenery.

Renaissance Festival- The Renaissance Festival is a medieval style event in Mecklenburg County that goes on from October 5 to November 24. There are actors dressed in costumes, jousting competitions, and food stands with turkey legs (everyone loves a good turkey leg!). There are also many different engaging performances that take through throughout the day and arts and crafts shops to look at in your spare time. This is a really immersive experience that is fun for all ages !

Go to a sports game- North Carolina has several sports teams that play in the fall. The Panthers, Hurricanes, and Hornets all play in October and November. Both the Hornets and Panthers are based in Charlotte, so you can always explore the city before or after going to a game. The games are worth going to, with their electric atmosphere and exciting gameplay.

Carolina BalloonFest- The Carolina BalloonFest is a nonprofit festival happens from the 18-20 of October. Hot air balloons are set off into the air throughout these few days; you can even pay to ride in a balloon yourself. While at the festival, you can also rock climb, run a 5K, watch balloons take off, or shop for merch and other trinkets in the marketplace.
