With the beginning of March, we almost have entered spring! As we leave winter behind, here are some silly and uplifting holidays to enjoy to make you smile and help others around you. Here are fun holidays for every day of the week!

  1. The National Day of Unplugging: March 7th

On this holiday, people typically take time away from their phones and devices whenever possible, choosing instead to focus on the people around them. If you find yourself glued to your phone or can't look away from the seemingly endless work on your computer, commit to spending a day with your friends, away from technology. When you use this as a group challenge, it can be much easier to accomplish, so take a few minutes now to plan an outing or cozy night in with your loved ones!

  1. Festival of Life in the Cracks Day: March 10th

The next time you see a flower growing in the concrete, appreciate the beauty and strength of a plant to fight so hard for life in a difficult place. As it has overcome obstacles, you can too, to move past the challenges in your life to flourish wherever you are!

  1. National Good Samaritan Day: March 13th

The story of the good Samaritan comes from the Bible, where Jesus told a parable about a Samaritan who helped a Jewish man who had been robbed and beaten. But it gets even deeper because Samaritans during that time would not even speak to Jews. While many people would not have even given the Jewish man a second glance, the Samaritan went out of his way to patch him up and care for him. So this March, take a moment to reflect: think about how you can reach out to and help someone in way that is not necessarily in your comfort zone. Then go out and do it!

  1. Tea for Two Tuesday: March 18th

The name explains this simple and heart-warming holiday! Find some time on March 18th to share a hot cup of tea with a friend or family member. If you're feeling fancy, make some cucumber sandwiches or scones to complete the tea-time setting!

  1. World Poetry Day: March 21st

Even if English class has led you to dread poetry, there are many great books full of great poets! There are dozens of books to try, from autumnal poems, to one for every day of the year. For a modern twist, try reading the lyrics to a favorite song or listening to a new artist. And if you're feeling creative, write a poem or two of your own!

  1. Tolkien Reading Day: March 25th

If you haven't read The Hobbit yet, take this holiday as your sign to start! It is a cozy novel, full of magic, adventure, and a fair bit of humor. Or, if you feel you'd like to read another book, try The Lord of the Rings, a series that includes more detail about the world of Middle-earth. Whatever book you find yourself reading, you will find yourself enveloped in a rich fantasy world that remains unmatched in the world of literature.

  1. National Take a Walk in the Park Day: March 30th

When you've immersed yourself in poetry and Middle-earth, find your own enchanting corner of the world! Taking a nice walk, especially in the afternoon, gives me more energy and appreciation for the beauty of nature. If you can't get to your local park, even walking around the neighborhood is great for you!

After reading through these holidays, I hope you have been encouraged to try at least one out this month! As always, thank you for reading, and have a wonderful day!
