It has been almost 30 years since "Hocus Pocus" came out in 1993. Even though most of us weren't alive for the premiere, the movie has been an integral part of the spooky season. So, I bet you're now wondering how the is sequel. Well, here are my thoughts!
To start, the stars of the show are truly the Sanderson sisters. Even though 29 years have passed, it truly feels like no time has passed with how well the actors captured their characters. However, the new characters are just as amazing. One standout character was the town mayor, Tony Hale. He was incredibly goofy and somehow evaded the Sanderson sisters the whole movie, even though he was their prey. Both movies are clearly about sisterhood between the Sanderson sisters and between the teenage trio of Becca, Izzy, and Cassie. The trio of teens is able to capture common friendship problems and mix them with humor. The sisterhood theme still rings true to its roots, while creating a new bond that younger viewers can relate to.

The movie is also filled with nostalgia from the original movie and the 90s (which even as a teen I was able to pick up on). Even though several jokes in the sequel rely on callbacks to the original, the movie created its own humor. My favorite moment was when the Sanderson sisters went to Walgreens and purchased electric brooms to fly on. The movie was also filled with many hilarious musical numbers. My favorite is when they bewitched the town with a song after they lost a "Sanderson Sister Costume Contest."

The film also uses nostalgia from the original movie to entertain the fans from the original. It did so without sacrificing the story that came before or relying on cheesy references to entertain its viewers. The sequel paid homage to its roots while still creating a story of its own. There was no anticlimactic ending that ruined the storyline in the original film. “Hocus Pocus 2” was able to create its own storyline and provide nostalgia to the original without solely relying on references to "Hocus Pocus."

Thanks for listening to my review of "Hocus Pocus 2." I hope you all will watch it for yourselves! You can watch the original film and its sequel now on Disney+.
