How to Make Paper Stars

Have you ever seen those big jars full of tiny paper stars and wondered "How can I make those myself?", if so, then this is the tutorial for you!

Materials

  • Paper - lined paper works the best, but I'm using graph paper (You can also buy pre cut star paper online, I used those to make pattered and colored stars without the hassle of cutting paper)

  • Scissors (only if you need to cut your paper)

Instructions

NOTE

If you already have star paper, skip to step 3

  1. Begin by cutting off the jagged edge of your paper. If your paper has holes punched in it, do not worry, they won't mess up your stars.

2. Start cutting the horizontal lines on your paper (shown in pink), then you will get a small strip of paper.

3. At the end of your paper make a loop.

4. Tuck the tail of the paper into the loop and then gently pull tight and flatten to form a pentagon.

5. Take the small tail and fold it over on top of the pentagon, following the natural angles.

6. Then take the long tail of the pentagon and begin folding it over the natural angles of the pentagon till you end up with a small tail.

7. Tuck the small tail into the folds between what you've previously made.

8. Now for the tricky part, making the star puffy and 3D. Start by holding your star like in image 13, press on one corner with your pointer finger to make an indent, the star should start to puff up.

9. Rotate your star and repeat step 8 on each side till you have the finished product!

Your stars may start out rough, I know mine did, but with some time they will look great!
