It's National Veterans and Military Families Appreciation Month!

Did you know November is National Veterans and Military Families Month? Read down below to learn more about what this special month is all about and how we can celebrate our veterans!

You might be thinking, what is this month truly about?

During the month of November, it is a special time for our country to celebrate the soldiers who have served in our military. This time is designated for recognizing and honoring the sacrifices and contributions they have made while on duty.

This month plays an incredibly crucial role in spreading awareness of the various challenges our veterans have gone through for our country. It creates an opening for people to understand more about the role that the military has on our wellbeing and safety as Americans, while also giving attention to the various stories and experiences shared from service members and military families!

To show how important this month actually is, each year even the President reinforces the important role that the U.S. Armed Forces have had in our past by issuing a proclamation, visiting military bases, and personally thanking our veterans. All of their heavy contributions have allowed the country to build its foundations and develop as a whole! The main point of National Veterans and Military Families Month (NVMFM) allows us citizens to celebrate important members of our military community and make sure their voices are being heard!

How Can We Celebrate?

It is our duty to make sure we recognize our veterans and celebrate this month for our military. However, some people don't know how to show their appreciation. Here are a few ideas that you, your family, or friends can participate in during this month!

  1. Attend local events: Many communities and groups that specialize in the military host events during this month that you can attend! This lets you expose yourself and learn new things about the military, all while possibly meeting veterans that live in your very own area!

  2. Volunteer: Lend a hand and help out with these organizations that host events or any other fundraisers that support military families and our veterans.

  3. Donate: Whether large or small, donations help the cause to support military families, as these contributions go to these military groups through fundraising in order to make an impact on their community.

  4. Educate yourself: Even if you can't go out and participate in these events, donate funds, or help volunteer, solely educating yourself about what this month truly stands for and the struggles and contributions that our military goes through is a perfect way to show your gratitude!

  5. Wear purple: A simple and fun way to show your appreciation is by wearing purple! This color represents support and encouragement for military families and kids. Go out and wear purple to show off your military pride!
