Right off the bat I knew that this book was destined for greatness.
I listened to book reviews on BookTube (YouTube) and all over BookTok (TikTok)... I mean, the likelihood of going on my phone and seeing anything about TSOA was more than likely 100%.
So going into this my expectations were through the roof, everyone had loved it so how could I not?
Going into this without much prior detailed knowledge I was setting myself up for an interesting time. Very simply, I enjoyed this book a lot!! It wasn't the end all be all of books per se, but it was a book that I found captivating, engaging, and thought provoking. I would recommend snatching a copy from a library or a local used bookstore big time!
The two main characters, Achilles and Patroclus, are intertwined in one singular plot line compared to The Illiad's multiple plot lines that WILL hurt your soul. Now it didn't exactly make me cry like promised, however there was definitely a good amount of heart aching going on. Why? Well that is simply for you to find out!! Sorry not sorry.
But I guess I will give you some plot information:
- Character development. Romance. Adventure. War. Heartbreak.
- "What the- what is happening?" : me reading the first couple of pages.
- The last chapter is needless to say... intense.
- “He is half of my soul, as the poets say.”- TSOA *baboom baboom*x1000 (that was the sound of my heart doing back flips).
- You can definitely read Circe by Madeline Miller if you like this book, or alternately have already read Circe and like it then read this
- It took me a little bit to get attached and immersed into the story line but once I hit that connection I was very enamored with the entire story.
- This is definitely a whirlwind of emotion within 416 pages.
- "What the- what is happening?" : me reading the last half of the book.
- You will read this book then proceed to run to your friends to share all your thoughts and feelings - even if they don't understand.
- There is a major warning on this book due to some pretty intense and graphic topics although personally for myself I wasn't very bothered by anything. - "I am broken, and I do not know whether to never love or to find someone to love right away": me reflecting after reading the book.
Overall, read this book.
