Note-Taking Tips

Taking notes can be hard! You're tired, you're confused, and your teacher might not be the best for your type of learning. It's normal to feel this way, but hopefully a few of these tricks and tips will click for YOU.

  1. ORGANIZE! This doesn't necessarily make notes easier, but an organized desk, bag, and folder/binder will make you feel more prepared and ready to learn. For me, this means color coded binders, but some of my friends have a singular binder with dividers.

  2. REWORD! This is one l personally struggle with. Don't get so caught up in rewriting the slides word-for-word; try to wait for your teacher to fully explain a topic before jumping into notes.

  3. FORMAT! (or beautify for some) Make your titles tall and highlight your subtitles! Leave space for a diagram (or doodle) here! Maybe you need space for vocabulary or key points. I always leave room for sketches in my science class and color code my math stuff. Whatever you need to have in your notes, just keep it consistent!

  4. CONNECT! Use arrows and dashes to connect different ideas, words, or images. I usually group things by topic, so arrows are a lifesaver when I realize things are related (probably way too late).

I hope at least one of these tricks clicks for you. Remember that everyone learns differently, and just try to enjoy your classes, cute notes or not!
