I have been getting back into paper crafting and I decided I wanted an inexpensive way to give a little love to those I care about. These are really easy and a cute way to give a homemade valentine. Want to see them in person? Stop by the teen area at the Main Library in Monroe! There is also a little basket where you can even pick up your own before we run out!
Supplies - Paper (Any type) - Anything Circular (For Tracing) - Scissors
- Glue Stick
Part One: Paper and Circles
So I used some traditional valentines colors and used a few book pages from an old, discarded book. You can pick whatever you want (even magazine and newspaper pages), make them customized to the person you are making them for. Look around your house for stuff that is circular that you could trace (I used a candle, bowl, and a glitter container). Trace those items on your paper. Each circle will make a different size heart. You will cut out the circles and then you are ready for the next part.
Part Two: Make Some Grid Lines +Accordion Fold
Basically this whole idea is you are just going to do an accordion fold (folding back and forth). First thing you'll want to do is make some guide lines for when you start doing the accordion fold.
- Fold your circle in half. (Photo #1)
- Open the circle back up, fold the bottom and top back up to the middle line. (Photo #2)
- Fold the curved edged back down towards the bottom edge. (Photo #3) - If you do this on both the top and bottom halves of the circle, when you open it up you will have guide lines. (Photo #4)
- Then you are going to start folding back and forth starting on one side and working towards the other, flipping from front to back as you go. At the end you will have an accordion fold. (Photo #5)
Part Three: Glue it Together
Once you have the circle folded up then you just have 2 quick steps then you are done!
- Take your accordion folded paper and fold it in half at the center, make sure the top edges are as level as possible.
- Open it up and put some glue on the inside part that has the two halves touching. Fold it back and hold it together.
- You've got a paper heart! Feel free to fan it out a little if you want.

If you've got extra time you can make little valentine cards using the paper hearts as decorations. (I hot glued a small one on top of a larger one.) Check out the valentine card I made for our February Discord Book Chatting pick below!
