April is National Poetry Month! Whether you're an avid poetry fan or just beginning to read the genre, you'll find that there are an endless number of poetry books you can choose to read.
One of the best parts about a poetry book is the ability for so many stories to be told in just one text. Below, I've compiled a list of some of the most popular teen and young adult poetry books that just may pique your interest this month.
All of these books can be found in the Union County Library catalog, here.
Happy Reading!

Gill says that the book is meant to be a collection of lessons she wishes someone had told her when she was younger.
This book also includes hand-drawn illustrations along with its poems!
Gill is also the author of a poetry book on the journey to healing, as well as a set of poems on the goddesses of Ancient Greek mythology.

In this collection of poems, Thakur ties together themes of identity, race, self-love, mental health, and intergenerational relationships between grandmothers, mothers, and daughters.
Thakur outlines the journey of growing up and arriving in adulthood, and especially underscores the importance of using your voice.
Thakur is also the author of Somebody Give This Heart a Pen, which is also a collection of poems about being yourself and experiencing different emotions as you grow older.

This poetry collection includes themes of hope and healing alongside writings about history, identity, and language. Gorman also writes about the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic and the challenges we have overcome since.
Gorman's poems in this book are a reflection of the past, the present, and the future. Her writing is empowering and thoughtful, and these ideas are channeled through in her poetry.
