Relieving Stress

The start of the New Year comes with many things. New semesters start and overall there are so many changes we as people have to deal with. This can cause stress, which most people just avoid until it finally takes them over. Some also accept stress as they are excited about something. Three ways to limit the negative stress in your days are improving organization skills, doing something for your physical body, and seeking mindfulness.

Firstly, organizational skills depend on what works for you to make you feel less stressed. Making lists is one organizing technique that helps your stress levels. You can see what is on your plate and then take them one step at a time. Another skill is planning your day out like an agenda. Checking off your daily activities helps you to physically and mentally be done with them. Focusing your time too much on planning ahead could eventually add stress to your plate and that is why you should do it correctly. Aside from organizational skills, just writing everything that you are stressed about takes it from your mind.

Doing something physical for at least an hour each day takes down your stress level because it allows for more blood and oxygen to be in your brain. When your brain has good oxygen levels, it will enable itself to think and make decisions clearer. Getting at least eight hugs a day has been found to make a person happier! Even just walking outside helps take down stress levels because it acts as a break from life. Being active in a sport also helps because you get human interaction while getting your blood pumping. Then, just being outside also brings down your blood pressure, which is overall healthier.

Mindfulness can be many things to you. Mindfulness means being aware and accepting of your surroundings. Breathing is one main way of achieving this awareness. Taking enough deep breaths allows for oxygen to circulate in your body and brain. When in a stressful situation, you can follow the 333 Rule, which is finding three things you can see, hear and touch. This technique allows you to be grounded as you lower your stress. The first thirty minutes you spend in your morning also affects how your day is going to go. Practicing mindful habits in the morning can help you to cope with stressful situations better.

These three coping mechanisms with stress do not stop stressful events from happening, but they help you to deal with them. Learning more about yourself can help you find out what coping tool works best for you. In the end, dealing with stress can be hard but there are so many ways to make it easier :).
