Review of Royal Heirs Academy by Lindsay Duga

I love anything fantasy-related, especially when it has to do with royalty and cut-throat competition, so when I was given the opportunity to read an advance copy of Royal Heirs Academy by Lindsey Duga, I jumped on it. And this book did not disappoint. Here are the highlights!

The star of the show in this book are the characters. The 4 main characters are all really well-developed, with interesting backstories and arcs. The alternating points of view allow you to really get to know each character and their internal motivations, and seeing how their backgrounds influenced the way they each viewed and interacted with the world they’d been thrust into was super interesting for me. Each character brings something different to the story, but they’re all equally relatable, which makes it fun to read about them.

I also loved all the plot twists in this book. I won’t spoil anything, but I loved seeing some of the characters take a hard left and go in a completely unexpected direction. It drew me and got me excited about what would happen next, which is always a good thing. The premise of the book is interesting as well. I like the idea of an academy dedicated to training the next generation of geniuses, CEOs, presidents, and monarchs and I think that and the way the book ends leaves open the possibility of Duga writing more books in this universe.

The one negative thing I will say about this story is the timeline felt a little rushed for me, especially toward the end. I think extending the story into a longer book or even multiple books would have allowed for even more character development and just enhanced the plot in general. That being said, it was still a really good book and I highly recommend it, especially if you were a fan of The Selection series by Kiera Cass. This one is definitely worth adding to your TBR.
