Is anyone else as obsessed with cooking as I am? There is just something about it that's so relaxing after a long day. It's the one time of day that I have to take a moment for myself and make something delicious for dinner for my husband and me to enjoy (and the cat when my husband sneaks her some chicken).
So, where do I find my recipes? There are a variety of places that I get my recipes, but my favorite way will always be a cookbook. There's something comforting about flipping through a cookbook that gets me in the mood to try new and exciting recipes. I am always challenging myself to cook or bake things that I have never tried before. Here are some new cookbooks that we've added recently that are geared towards our young aspiring chefs.
Julie Morrison
This is a must read for anyone beginning their cooking journey. This book goes into detail about not only cooking basics, but about kitchen and food safety. It also introduces the readers to the different types of kitchen equipment and how to use each one to familiarize budding chefs with the kitchen before they get started on their culinary journey.
There are 100 recipes that help young chefs learn the basics of cooking. These are simple and delicious recipes with accessible ingredients. One of my favorites in this cookbook was one for Slow Cooker Chicken Alfredo. There is nothing better than throwing ingredients in a slow cooker with little to no prep and having an easy clean up afterwards.
Tip: For easy clean-up when using a slow cooker use a slow cooker plastic liner.
Noah Michaud
This is a must for beginning chefs looking for more healthy options. It includes over 100 fast and easy delicious recipes that range from breakfast to dessert. I'm all for delicious, healthy recipes that use ingredients that one can find in a common kitchen pantry.
One of the perks to this cookbook, besides having more health conscious recipes, is that it caters to people with other dietary restrictions like nut/dairy allergies and vegetarians. One of my favorites in this cookbook was the 5-ingredient Peanut Butter Pretzel Snaps. There is nothing better than a perfect sweet and salty combination especially when they can be made in under 30 minutes.
Tip: Spray a baking cup with non-stick cooking spray before measuring out sticky ingredients like honey or peanut butter to make it easier when you go to add it to your recipe.
Robin Donovan
This cookbook includes sweet and savory recipes that are all baked in the oven, which is my preferred method of cooking. There is nothing worse then having to stand there stirring something on a stove for what feels like forever, because it's usually when you look away for just a second something burns.
One of the perks to this cookbook is that it breaks the recipes down into difficulty levels:1-3, with 1 being the easiest and 3 being the hardest. This lets you tackle the basics before diving into more difficult recipes. One of my favorites of this book is Cheesy Potato Stacks. OMG I love potatoes then when you put cheese on them it's like the cherry on top of an ice cream sundae. This level one recipe uses basic kitchen equipment including a muffin tin which shows that kitchen equipment can be extremely versatile.
Tip: While buying pre-grated cheese is easier and less messy grating a block of cheese is more cost effective plus it melts better due to not having additives.
Now, get to cooking my young aspiring chefs!
