School Is out and Exams Are Done- How Do We Remain Productive?

I'm not sure if it's just me, but every May I make some crazy plan on how my summer will go. Usually, it consists of me becoming "that" girl with 7 am workouts, eating healthy, and 4 hour-long SAT study sessions. When summer eventually rolls around, I find myself understanding how outrageous these plans were and that I never got around to doing them. Eventually, I learned how to compromise with the time I have during the summer. Here are some recommendations:

Listen to Yourself

For me, not listening to myself and how I feel on a certain day was my biggest problem when battling productivity. On days where I didn't feel like doing anything, I stopped trying and fell out of schedule. This changed when I realized that in order for me to stay focused even on lazy days, I needed to push myself to do something for at least a small amount of time. This can mean to study, workout, or even bake for at least 30 minutes, anything that will prevent you from staying in one place.

Keeping that Routine

Don't you love that feeling of satisfaction when you check something off your to-do list? That's how I feel with my calendar. What I've found is that once I put something on my daily calendar, I have to cross it off. Thus, this kind of forces me to either finish it on the day or push it to the next day. Another thing I need to keep is deadlines. Without them, I keep on putting off things to do and items to get. During the summer, I would recommend getting a journal or calendar that you could put on the items you want to get done.

Being Reasonable

If I'm being honest, when I tried to be productive, I was never reasonable with myself. What I mean by this is that I would go from doing hardly anything to suddenly making a "productive" routine, and thus wondering why I can't maintain it. My biggest recommendation is small, baby steps. Once you get a hang of a new step in a routine, add another, and so on. This can be going on a morning stroll, or maybe making yourself a nice breakfast!

Last but not least, remember to get some rest this summer! As the school year comes to an end, it's important that we use this time to keep ourselves healthy and prepared for next school year. With these small steps, I hope you'll be able to reach a lifestyle that makes you happy!
