In our current climate of quarantine, stress is running higher than ever. No matter how much you love your family, they can be the most talented people at getting under your skin. With this is mind, we have put together a list of ideas that will help you take a little time out for yourself and your sanity each day.
Carve Out Time
Sometimes the hardest part of taking care of yourself is giving yourself the time to do so. Start by scheduling 15-20 minutes each day that is just for you. No parents, no siblings, not even your friends. Just you for 15-20 minutes.
Scheduling it for yourself around the same time everyday will help you start this as a routine.
Be One With Nature
How long has it been since you just sat outside and observed nature? Take 15 minutes today and sit outside and watch as nature continues to move and thrive around you. Watch the birds as they eat and fly. Check out the squirrels that scavenge for food. Look up towards the sky and find shapes in the clouds. Just take this time to observe and relax, clearing your mind.
Express Yourself
Write, dance, draw, paint! Find something that moves through you and immerse yourself in it. This is not about being good at something, this is about simply expressing yourself. Put on some music and dance until you feel numb, paint with all the colors at once, write everything that has been revolving around in your head for the day. The point of this is simply to let go. To express yourself without worry of judgement or critique.
Get Moving
Taking just 15 minutes to have a walk around your yard or neighborhood can go a long way to improve your mood. This small amount of exercise releases enough endorphins to help put a smile on your face, and clear your mind.
Play with Your Pet(s)
Take some time to play and cuddle with a pet if you have one or offer to watch a neighbors, their unconditional love is like a balm to the soul.
Learn a New Hobby
Being stuck at home is the perfect time to teach yourself a new hobby, and with a slew of YouTube videos to help instruct you on your hobby journey, there is no reason not to start right away.
Turn Off the Screens
We spend a ton of time looking at screens throughout the day. Whether it is your phone, computer, or television we are at times a slave to the screens. Take this 15-20 minutes to put down all the screens and rediscover the world around you.
