Veterans Day is Monday, November 11th! This is a special day of recognition of the brave men and women who have served in the United States Military. No matter when they served, or what branch (Army, Navy, Airforce, etc.) they served in, it's important to thank these heroes.
There are so many ways to thank and help veterans such as…
"Thank you for your service".This one is simple, but it means a lot more than you think it does. Always thank someone who served. Keep in mind that a veteran isn't always a buff guy in a camo uniform. Veterans can be anyone, from that buff guy to a woman in a wheelchair.
Making cards! You can make cards and drop them off at your local VA (veterans affairs) to distribute. Same goes for posters, candy, anything sweet or simple. https://www.va.gov/ « VA website. Monetary donations can also be made.
Reaching out! You don't need to know a veteran well to support them. Ask if they heed help with anything, offer to cover a meal, walk them across the street. A lot of veterans are older and/or disabled in some way, and little actions like these are meaningful and helpful.
Asking about their story. Ask what made them want to serve, their favorite memory, maybe their least favorite food on deployment 😅. Keep in mind that not all of their memories of service are going to be pleasant, so don't be pushy. Veterans may also not be legally able to talk about certain things. Top Secret!
There are many different ways to serve Veterans, but just do your best to be kind to them, especially on veterans day. A small "thank you" goes a long way!
