Shelfie Bio: Mya

Take a trip through my bookshelf!

Surprisingly, my shelf is pretty empty and contained. As someone who prefers maximalism much over minimalism, the majority of my room is as full and covered with posters, items, and art as possible. I’ve managed to keep this shelf much neater than the rest of my room, but my other bookshelf which holds my chapter books is quite a mess… there’s a reason it isn’t included in these pictures!

On this shelf, which I consider my main shelf, the only types of books it holds are comics. Because I prefer to borrow books from the library rather than spend money on every book I read, I have few large chapter books of my own. With comics; however, I prefer to have my own copies, so they are stored on my main shelf. Books that I really enjoy and have bought with the intention of rereading are kept on my other messy shelf that shall not be named.

Starting from the top of my shelf, I have my prized record player! This Audio-Technica record player is the result of a random splurge about a year ago that resulted in my dropping my entire bank account on the turntable, two speakers, and a couple of vinyls. Since I got this record player, my vinyl collection has continued to grow and I consider it a worthwhile investment. I highly recommend looking into Audio-Technica turntables if you’re interested in records and avoid suitcase turntables if you have a decent budget!

Currently, I have Paramore’s All We Know Is Falling on my turntable. We all have an emo moment, okay?

Next up is my Funko Pop collection. I used to have a much more extensive collection, but I was running out of space so I cleared some out. I primarily have Marvel Funkos, but my favorites are Casey Jones, from TMNT, and Silver the Hedgehog, from Sonic. Both of which were magically found in 2nd & Charles’ Funko aisles.

Below my Funko Pops are my vinyls and other knick-knacks, from scrapbook to plush to Monster High dolls. Up front I have an old Venus Mcflytrap doll and a Draculaura from the new Monster High generation.

My vinyl collection has quite the range of music. Initially, I started with just An Evening With Silk Sonic until I further expanded into Anderson .Paak’s vinyls. Now, I have almost all of Billie Eilish’s music (I’m in desperate need of her Guitar Songs vinyl) and I’m only missing two Led Zeppelin albums! I also have various other artists like Paramore, Ghost, Taylor Swift (props to my sister), Zac Brown Band, and Bruno Mars.

Lastly, my comic collection. Most notably, and most visible due to the sheer size of the series: Invincible! This comic series is a genuine addiction of mine. I’ve read all 144 issues… and then reread them about three times. Sometimes I regret buying them in the compendium format rather than the much smaller omnibus format because of how obnoxious they are to lug around, but then I remember how much nicer they look on my shelf with the big, bolded titles. To the right of Invincible is The Boys. I’m gonna be honest, I watched the show before reading the comics - I know, treachery. I’ve really enjoyed this comic series as well and I’m close to finishing it. I also have a few random collections further right such as TMNT and a couple of Marvel comics. I also have many random individual issues of comics. Some of my favorites are from the Empty Zone series, Ghosted, and Tech Jacket.

On my other shelf, I have a few series that are special to me. My favorite series, named the Crimson Lake series after the first book’s title, is front and center. This trilogy written by Candice Fox is constantly on my reread list! I highly recommend this series to anyone who enjoys mystery and very well written characters. Also, each book in this series can be found at the Union County Public Libraries; I know this because I first read them through the library. I also have the “You” series on my bookshelf, fully annotated, and one fully soaked in ocean water (oops). And last, but not least, the hunger games trilogy, because what else is truly needed on a teenage girl’s bookshelf?

Thanks for taking a tour of my bookshelf! If you’re interested to hear more about the Invincible comics and tv series, look out for my blog about it below!
