Stephanie obviously had some beautiful relationships picked, but after Rory and Logan, I decided it was time to take some of her ships down! Welcome to the SS Battle "Ships"
Ned "The Piemaker" and Charlotte "Chuck" Charles
Ned lives a simple life making pies in the city, but this is just a cover for his real ability. One touch from Ned can bring things back to life! Only drawback is if the animal or person stays alive longer than 60 seconds, another life is sacrificed. If he touches them again before the 60 seconds is up, they go back to their eternal rest. So what happens when the only girl he has ever loved dies? He makes the sacrifice and brings her into his world. The love that Ned and Chuck share is so pure, it is almost stomach churning, almost!
Sookie St. James and Jackson Belleville
Yes, I know we all love Luke and Loralie. And of course there is the always fought Rory and ------ (fill in your own preference, even though we know it is Jess.) The real romance of Gilmore Girls for me, however, will always be Sookie and Jackson. Watching their relationship go from snippy arguments over produce to the birth of their second child is a constant reminder that not every relationship in Star Hollows is fraught with drama. Sookie and Jackson are always there to support and be there for one another as equal partners in their marriage. Now if only the Loraleis could get the memo on what a healthy relationship looks like.
Maxine "Max" Black and Caroline Channing
If you are a down on your luck good girl, then you know that the only thing you truly need is a brash and ballsy best friend. Caroline is stuck in a constant societal downfall when Max comes into her life and teaches her that money isn’t the only thing that can give us what we want and need in life. Watching these two as they navigate their friendship, whirlwind romances, and their up and down cupcake business keeps me cheering for these two besties.
Mabel and Dipper Pines
I can see why people are quick to back up Sam and Dean as the ultimate sibling-ship, but for me, it will always be Mabel and Dipper Pines. The way that this brother and sister pair always have each other’s backs is the definition of “twinning.” Whether Mabel has begged Dipper for help getting close to her newest crush, or Dipper has enlisted Mabel’s help in finding the root of the latest mystery, these two are unstoppable when they work together. Need more proof? The one time they went against one another, they jump-started an apocalypse!
Christopher Turk and James Dorian
The winners for most romantic over-the-top platonic relationship goes to the only real nominees for such a title, Turk and J.D. of Scrubs fame. These two are always there for each other, despite their equally neurotic and arrogant personalities. I am not ashamed that my relationship with my own best friend is about as homoerotic as the one shared by Turk and J.D., and there is nothing in this world that could make me want to give it up.
Crowley and Aziraphale
There are not enough heart eyes on this planet to describe the utter perfection that is Crowley and Aziraphale. One is a demon, one is an angel, and neither can be without the other. Imagine watching the world begin to crumble all around you, and only wanting that one person in your life that makes is all seem worthwhile, despite the opposing battlefields. Century after century, decade after decade, the world continues to change, but their love for each other stays strong.
Wesley and Buttercup
For me, this is the ultimate romantic ship out there. If you are not familiar with The Princess Bride, movie or book, remedy that ASAP! This is the story that gives you all you could ever want: action, magic, pirates, a girl who goes from peasant to princess, a man in black, R. O. U. S.’s, and some of the best lines in cinematic history. There is truly nothing more moving for me than each time Wesley replies to Buttercup with his simple, “As you wish.”
Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy
I love these girls. I love when they team up, I love when they fight, I love when they attempt to navigate their complicated feelings for one another. It is anything but easy being a female villain in Gotham, a city overrun by every type of male madman you can find, but these two have managed to stay atop this criminal pyramid while still having each other’s backs. They love each other, who could ask for more than that?
Leslie Knope and Ann Perkins
Thanks to the relationship between Leslie and Ann, I am wholeheartedly in favor of announcing a national holiday for Galentine’s Day to better celebrate the strength we have in our female relationships. The way Leslie and Ann support one another, and build each other up is a lesson we should utilize in our everyday life going forward. They don’t need a man or a romantic relationship to keep them strong, because they have each other, and we all need someone like that in our lives.
Joyce Byers and Jim Hopper
I swear I love watching these two orbit around one another. They know they care and love each other, but the difficulty in getting those two stubborn adults to admit it may be more damaging than the Upside-Down itself. It is like watching your parents fall in love all over again, while they save the world, AGAIN.
