Well, it's been a LONG wait.
A countless number of movies and shows have been delayed because of COVID-19 and a variety of other reasons, but this summer, we'll finally get to see some of our can't-wait-any-longer Marvel movies to our thrilling and can't-look-away Jurassic World films. So sit back, grab the popcorn, and recline your chair to catch a glimpse of these movies that'll be released (or may have just been released) before you know it!
Thor is back! This long-awaited film is the 4th installment in the Thor franchise of Marvel Studios. I'm most excited to see this movie because of the appearance of Jane Foster as the "new Thor," as you'll see in movie poster below and in the trailer, should you choose to watch it. To me, the Thor movies have set the expectation of always being a wonderful mix of comedy, action, and Marvel Studios' core as the superhero movie hub, and I cannot wait to watch this long anticipated installment! This movie is releasing in theaters on July 8th.
*Just a quick warning, there are some graphic images towards the end of this trailer.*
Since the original Jurassic Park movie released in 1993, the Jurassic World series has been a huge hit across the globe! I think the movies beautifully incorporate several key aspects of what we believe the future will look like while bringing in factors from our ancient past. I remember being so excited to watch the first reboot movie back in 2015, and I think I'm even more ecstatic to watch this conclusion to the series. It also seems like there are some actors from the original three movies joining this final one as well! This movie was actually released just a few days ago, on June 10th!
3. Lightyear
Does the name strike a familiar memory? If you guessed the one and only Buzz Lightyear from Toy Story, you were right! In this Pixar origin story for our favorite intergalactic space hero, we'll get to see Buzz and his friends go head on with the evil Zurg. Although this movie is geared towards a younger audience, I cannot wait to see it because Toy Story has been a huge part of my childhood. I'm very excited to see how Pixar describes Buzz Lightyear's journey into the Toy Story timeline and brings about his origin story. This movie is releasing in theaters on June 17th.
4. Ms. Marvel
Although it is a newly released TV show rather than a movie, I believe Ms. Marvel deserves a spot in this post because of the trailblazing hero it stars and the hype that has been building up to its release. Based on the original Marvel comics (which you can read here), Ms. Marvel features the first ever Muslim character to be the title hero in a Marvel Studios' production. I can't wait to meet Ms. Marvel (a.k.a Kamala Khan) and see her story! If you'd like to learn a little bit more about the series, check out this older post featuring other YA Book-to-Screen Adaptations. The first episode of the series aired June 8th, and there will be a new episode releasing every Wednesday until July 13th.
Another book-to-screen adaptation, Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens has received an incredible amount of praise for its intricate writing and the various themes it incorporates. As well as being a Reese's Book Club pick, the novel is expected to hit the big screen this summer. The story features a coming-of-age journey while also bringing in a mystery to the small town setting off the North Carolina coast. As a huge fan of mystery books and movies, I am so excited to see the movie version of this book! This movie is releasing in theaters on July 15th.
