What is the 100 Day Project?
Every spring, thousands of people commit to doing something creative every day for 100 days straight, or about 3 months. You can also use hashtags, such as #the100dayproject, to share your progress online! This event is a celebration of the progress in creating and making for people of all kinds of talents and interests. You can go to their website here!
The Humble Start of the 100 Day Project
Beginning in 2006, Yale professor Michael Bierut issued a challenge to his graduate students -- to repeat a design operation every day and document their progress, then on the 100th day, to present their results to the class. As these students posted about their creative projects on social media, the project grew larger and larger, becoming an online movement encompassing creatives of all kinds.
How to Complete the 100 Day Project
Choose something creative that you like to do, such as drawing, crocheting, making clay sculptures, putting together collages, sketching objects, knitting, sewing, painting, writing, cooking, etc.
Or, you could make this a project for you to become more thankful, and you want to thank one person every day.
Do you want to walk somewhere? Develop something?
Make this project something you're passionate about, a discipline that will make you happy as you complete a little more every day!
Use this question to help spark your ideas!
You could spend 100 days making new recipes, or talking to one new person every day! Maybe you want to get outside more, and you commit to finding one object in nature every day that you want to photograph. Or, if singing brings you joy, commit to singing one song all the way through for 100 days -- you could even hold a dance party in your room every night, or a little before school to boost your mood.
The 100 day project is flexible, and ready for your addition to it! If you miss a day, just hop right back on that train. Be kind to yourself, and let your progress grow naturally.
So go, set your goal for this project, and we'll see you in 100 days! Can't wait to see what you come up with!
