For me, the best part of Autumn is the delicious foods that roll around every season, but I bet there is one you haven't heard of yet: pumpkin-flavored cinnamon rolls! Check out this awesome recipe to make them yourself and enjoy them with friends and family!
Ingredients
For the Dough:
3/4 cup milk
1/4 cup granulated sugar
2 1/4 teaspoons quick rise yeast
3/4 cup pumpkin puree
1/4 cup melted butter
1 egg
4 cups bread flour
2 tablespoons pumpkin pie spice
3/4 teaspoon salt
For the Filling:
2/3 cup brown sugar
1 1/2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
1/4 cup room temperature butter
For the Icing:
4 ounces room temperature cream cheese
3 tablespoons room temperature butter
1/4 cup powdered sugar
4 tablespoons pure maple syrup
Step 1
Warm the milk for about 45 seconds in the microwave. Then, in an electric mixer, mix the milk, sugar, and yeast together. Slowly, mix the pumpkin puree, egg, and melted butter in too. Stir until smooth and creamy. Next, stir in the bread flour, pumpkin pie spice, and melted butter until the dough starts to form. After the dough is formed, knead the dough on a well-floured surface for about 8-10 minutes. You can either do this with your hands or with an electric mixer using a dough hook. The dough should form into a sticky (ish) ball.
Step 2
Transfer the ball of dough into a large bowl greased with olive oil or nonstick spray. Cover it with plastic wrap and, if possible, a warm towel. Allow the dough to rise for about an hour or until it has doubled in size.
Step 3
After the dough has doubled in size, transfer it to a well-floured surface and shape it into an (about) 14x16 inch triangle. Spread softened butter over the dough. Then, in a small bowl, mix the cinnamon and brown sugar. Next, sprinkle all of the brown sugar and cinnamon onto the dough and rub it in.
Step 4
Tightly roll the dough, starting from the shorter side. Try to seal the edges as best as you can. Once rolled, cut about 1 inch off from the ends. You can now cut the rolled dough into about 1-inch sections, or 12 evenly sized cinnamon rolls!
Step 5
Place the cinnamon rolls into a greased baking pan. Repeat the rising process, but this time for only about 30 minutes, or when they have doubled in size. While waiting, preheat your oven to 350 degrees.
Step 6
Put the cinnamon rolls into the oven for about 30 minutes. Then, start making the icing while you wait! In a medium-sized bowl, combine cream cheese, maple syrup, butter, powdered sugar, and salt. Wait for about 10 minutes (for the cinnamon rolls to cool) before you frost them. Then, sprinkle the cinnamon rolls with ground cinnamon and enjoy! :)
I hope you guys try this recipe out because it is super fun to make, especially with family and friends! Plus, it's SUPER tasty! I am actually not a big fan of cream cheese, but the icing was to die for and didn't even taste like cream cheese at all. I can't wait for you all to try this for yourself!
