The Folk of the Air Trilogy by Holly Black Review

I am normally not a lover of fantasy novels, but I could not put down The Folk of the Air series by Holly Black. I would give the whole series 5 stars because it was a great read. I would not be able to pick a favorite book out of the trilogy because they were all so good. I loved all the characters, the plot was suspenseful and engaging, and my favorite part of the series was the unique setting of Elfhame.

Honestly, The Cruel Prince was hard for me to start. The beginning of the story was way out of my comfort zone because there was death right at the start of the book which I was not expecting. It took quite a few chapters for me to understand the fantasy world of Elfhame and truthfully enjoy the book because there were many elements in the book that took me by surprise. Though it took a while for me to want to finish reading this book, it was SO good. It was unlike anything I had ever read before; I loved meeting all of the fantasy characters for the first time. The author, Holly Black, does a great job in characterizing everyone uniquely and creating a clear picture of them in your head. I loved the different situations and dynamics she wrote into the book because it was very engaging. I wanted to keep reading to know what would happen next! There were many plot turns that I didn't expect that really hooked me to keep reading the series!

The Wicked King was an amazing continuation of The Cruel Prince. I loved seeing all the characters develop even more in the second book than the first, especially Cardan and Jude. Many of the relationships between characters intensified and created tension and a new aspect to the events taking place. The plot of this novel was so good. There was so much planning that occurred: you were on the path to one thing and then there was a huge plot twist which made something else happen! Holly Black did a great job writing the book because the reader feels connected to the storyline and is put on the edge of his/her seat to see what will happen next and if they want it to happen or not.

The Queen of Nothing was a great novel to end the trilogy with. This was a very exciting novel because there was so much going on that was out of the main character's control that still affected her so much. There was a lot of action, power, and unexpected events in this storyline. Just like the other two novels in the series, Holly Black wrote many plot twists to shock the reader and change the direction of the story.

I hope you enjoy these novels as much as I did!
