Apple Crisp
The Crust-
Ingredients
1/2 cup sugar
1 cup flour
1/2 cup butter
Instructions
Mix the ingredients together with your hands by kneading it into a solid dough.
When you are done the batter should be moist and crumbly. (this means that it shouldn't be a smooth dough, but more like a lot of different chunks of it)
The Apple Filling-
Ingredients
4 cups apples
1 cup sugar
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 cup butter
1/2 tsp nutmeg
4 tbs water
1 cup flour
Instructions
Toss apples with lemon juice. Then toss with 1/2 cup of sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Then add the water. Lastly, spoon the mixture into a lightly greased 9'' sq or 9'' deep pie dish plate.
Putting it together-
Once the apple filling is in the pie dish, sprinkle the crust in an even layer on top of it. Bake at 350 degrees for 35 to 45 minutes.
This recipe is simple, quick, and easy to make. It's a tradition for my family to bake it almost every year around Easter. My sister and I always loved making the crust because we got to get our hands dirty and sticky with sugar when we were little. My grandmother taught us to make it, and I'm glad to be able to share it now.
