Are you ever bored at home with too much free time? Do you need to log volunteer hours? Do you like to help your community? If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, then you’re in luck! Here are some fun volunteer opportunities for teens in the Union County area.

Our very own Union County Public Library provides a few volunteer opportunities. Teens can become Teen Advisory Group (TAG) members, contribute to the Bookworm Blog, or volunteer in person at the library. You must be at least 14 to volunteer, unless you are volunteering for TAG. Go to uclnc.org to apply and see what volunteering at our library is all about!
Common Heart

Common Heart is a non-profit organization located in Indian Trail. They hope to bridge gaps in hunger and poverty by hosting food drives and pantries. Common Heart encourages volunteers of any age to help out. However, if you are under 14, you must volunteer with a supervising adult. Also, be mindful that those under 18 need a parent to cosign a permission waiver. For more information, head to commonheart.org.

The Union County Animal Shelter takes care of animals that don’t have homes. If you like dogs and cats, this job is perfect for you. Volunteers might be asked to train, exercise, bathe, and brush animals. They also help introduce animals to potential adopters, assist in the adoption offices, help with rabies vaccine clinics, and clean the kennels. You must be 15 to volunteer at the Union County Animal Shelter. Visit unioncountysheriffsoffice.com to sign up or learn more about this opportunity.

The Union County Community Shelter provides housing, food, and career assistance to those in need. Some jobs the organization needs help with include preparing meals, helping with the food pantry, aiding people in moving into new homes, and preparing birthday parties and other fun events. If you're 10 to 15 years old, you must volunteer with a parent, and teens from 16 to 17 years old can volunteer by themselves with a waiver signed by one of their parents. Check out unionshelter.org for more details.
Have fun volunteering in our amazing community!
