Winter Movie & Book Pairings

It's the season for holiday movies! Winter break is always one of my favorite times of the year, and there's no better way to spend a day off then with a good winter film. Books are also a great way to stay busy over this season! Check out the Union County Library catalog to find some great reads!

Here, you can find a list of popular holiday movies and a book to pair with each! These books may have been selected based on similar storylines, themes, characters, etc. All books can be found on the UCL catalog!

Happy watching and reading!

A Christmas Carol (2009) - PG

The Afterlife of Holly Chase by Cynthia Hand

This pairing is perfect for fans of Charles Dickens or the story of Ebenezer Scrooge. Cynthia Hand based her novel off the tale of the three Christmas ghosts (Past, Present, & Future) and retold the story with a modern twist! I highly recommend watching or reading either of these.

The Polar Express (2004) - G

A Castle in the Clouds by Kerstin Gier

While this movie is well known as a classic Christmas watch, Kerstin Gier's novel is a rom-com! However, both are set in two snowy settings and are able to embody the season of winter in a fun and engaging way. If you enjoy a travelling for the holidays then you'll love both of these!

Home Alone (1990) - PG

Winter Town by Stephen Emond

Home Alone is the perfect movie to watch when you need a good laugh. Winter Town is also a thoughtfully crafted novel that brings together humor and the spirit of winter. Both this movie and this book focus on activity in a small town as well, which is another great way to celebrate the holidays!
