Yu-Gi-Oh ARC-V in a Nutshell

There are 7 different Yu-Gi-Oh series, 4 of which occur before ARC-V. Keep reading for a brief overview!

The first 2 (Yu-Gi-Oh and GX) revolve around fusion summoning. The third (5Ds) focuses on synchro summoning. Fourth, (Zexal) is Xyz summoning. Each is its own dimension, but there's one last dimension: Standard, which is where this story takes place.

But before each dimension existed as its own, they were one big dimension. But a duel between the monster Z-ARC, and a girl named Rey, divided the world into four.

Later in the Standard world, a young duelist by the name of Yuya Sakaki unleashes a new and dangerous power that had never been seen before: PENDULUM!

Declan Akiba (Rey's brother) confronts Yuya, fearing Z-ARC's return.

Declan explained that Yuya was a part of Z-ARC and Zuzu (Yuma's BFF) was part of Rey. Each dimension had a version of them. Then Declan's father, The Professor, invaded with the Fusion dimension. Yuya and his friends were forced into the synchro dimension.

Deciding to combat the Fusion dimension, the pair dimension hop, meeting their counterparts and new allies such as: Aster Phoenix, Jack Atlas, and Kite Tenjo.

Now in the other series, these three were the main character's rivals. But as Z-ARC reforms the other main characters (the middle three in the first image at the top of this page) may have been erased from time. Z-ARC does reform and tries to refuse the dimensions. He rampages and defeated many of the best duelists.

Finally, Rey (also reformed) connects to the Yuya side of Z-ARC, and with his help is able to defeat Z-ARC. The dimensions are reset, with Z-ARC's power being contained in Yuya's body and Rey staying in the form of Zuzu. After that, the dimension remain connected.
