Readers ask yourself this: can a person truly be separated from their music? If you think no, then you are in for a wild ride on today's post.

Relationship

When their relationship started, it seemed like it was a normal relationship right? If your answer to this was yes, then you would sadly be wrong. This relationship lasted for around a year and Brianna came forward with her allegations within a few weeks of it ending. Below, I will highlight both the events that occurred and the reactions that followed, as well as testimony from Brianna and her legal team. If you would like to read more about this, viewer beware—once you click on the source material and leave this blog post, I am not responsible for the content you see.

The Situation and What Actually Happened

The couple began dating in July of 2023 and broke up on October 22nd, 2024. The events that occurred during this time period of a little over a year were both horrific and just downright wrong. Zach Bryan was accused by Brianna of being both emotionally and mentally abusive. When asked why she did not come forward sooner about the allegations, her response was, ''I’m still scared of him; my brain’s rewired. I’m scared to make him mad. Last week I didn’t want to talk about it because I was scared'' (gulflive.com). During this conversation, she shared several stories of Zach's behavior and how it put her over the edge. There was one instance in which she was singing a line from a Morgan Wallen song, “Last night we let the liquor talk.” LaPaglia says Bryan flew off the rails. Bryan's response to this was, ''Like, ‘I can’t believe you‘re singing another man’s song, under my roof, in this house that I own.'' (gulflife.com). She also says Bryan controlled what music she listened to, who she spoke to, and how she dressed, once berating her over the dress she wore to the Golden Globes. (gulflife.com)

Other Instances of Zach's Mistreatment and Abuse

'' In another alarming story, LaPaglia spoke about an instance at her most recent birthday, saying that Bryan started “screaming at” her friends “out of nowhere” and calling them “losers” in an expletive-laden rant. When she tried to calm him down, she says, he smashed a glass. LaPaglia’s friends apparently recorded the incident — something else that allegedly set Bryan off. Ever since then, it was awful. Zach, every night, I‘d be trying to go to sleep on the bus and he would come in and start recording me and be like ... ’ Is it OK if I‘m recording you, since your friends record me? At the end of the podcast episode, LaPaglia removed the case from her phone, revealing the shattered glass on the back, then said, “My phone is smashed; he’s always smashed my phone.” (gulflive.com). I think this shows his true character compared to how he is while in public.

The True Question

After this backstory, this leads me to the real question I've always had, which is, ''Can you truly separate an artist and their actions from the music they make?'' After doing a bit of reading and surfing the web, I'm still split between yes and no as my answer. I think that it's complicated, and it depends on who you ask. Just from what I've personally bothered to read, and with personal experience with the song he released called “High Road” with lyrics alluding to a failed relationship: “She’s bound to come back and haunt you forever'' And ''There’s ghosts in the windows and walls.” I think in this song that he's blaming her for the issues in their relationship; however, I think that he's to blame after the accusations and the mountain of proof his ex-girlfriend showed the world when speaking out. If you look at his music, you see a lot of similarities between the lyrics and his actions, and his actions speak boldly.

Below, I have linked my source material as well as a playlist of some of his songs that support both my opinion and research.
